Research Point

Find out about two artists who exemplify mastery of detailed drawing and make notes about their work. Choose a modern artist and one working in the nineteenth century or earlier.

Ben Heine:
The modern artist is an easy choice for me. It's an artist I have been following on Facebook and on his blog for his work "Pencil Vs Camera". Ben Heine was born in 1983, studied art and journalism and currently lives and works in Belgium. He describes himself as a painter, illustrator, portraitist, caricaturist and photographer.
As I'm unsure of the copyright, I'm unable to paste any of his work but please take a look at the following:

I have looked at utube where he shows how he starts his drawings for the Pencil Vs Camera series . Firstly he draws a sketch of his chosen object or objects on a torn piece of paper then holds this up towards the horizon to take a photograph. Some of this series is drawn with a comical aspect some with accurate detail.
My integument is partly due the accurate detail with each line in perfect union with its match, and part I think due to my interest in photography and his way of joining the two.

Leonardo da Vinci 15th April 1452 to 2nd May 1519

There are so many fantasic artists to select from in the 19th centry or earlier. I first wanted to find someone whom is reasonabley unknow, but how could I neglect one os the most remarkable people of all time Leonardo da Vinchi. Leonardo was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, anatomist, writer and inventer. He was the illagitamate son of a peasant woman. It was said that his work would have agained credit must sooner should he have been born in wedlock.

Leondardo is famous for his paintings of "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa". His skills as a painter show

Leonardo's work pushed him to investergate working things and how they moved. This included the anatomy of human beings and it was quite astounding as he was a vegaterian which was  uncommon in his day.

Pictures of Leonardo's inventions can be viewed at www.bridgemanart.com.
A musem can be found in Malan, Italy displaying replicas of some of his inventions, ie winches and cranes. Reviews can be read at www.tripadvisor.co.uk This is located in a medieval castle in Leonado's home town of Vinci. (And to state the obvious, his surman is such due to his birth place)
